For this week with the second portfolio date coming up I decided to concentrate on finishing elements for my mini documentary. One specific element I haven’t begun is my script to include voiceovers during the pictures and videos. I believe having this aspect will be important because it adds a different dynamic to my video. Instead of there just being a visual picture, there would be an audio element which would be beneficial to providing more direct background knowledge on my journey to the audience. Here is my draft of my voice overs I wish to include:
I put on my first tap shoe at two years old and would of never imagined its impact on my life
My journey began at Laurie Ewarts Dance Studio where I gained confidence in the dance world and made friends who impacted my values for a lifetime
The next step of my journey was the A.N myer Dance team, where I became apart of a dance family and completely expanded my knowledge of the dance world.
After having the experience in my studio, this new chapter of high school dance sparked my initial desire to perform and challenge myself with new teachers and teammates.
My new dance teacher was Mrs.Kretz. I knew she was different than all my past teachers from our first day of practice because she didn;t taking being decent as an option. She made us do every move until it was done to perfection no matter how long it took. Having this dedicated mentor made all her feedback transform into motivation and hunger to reach our full potential. I found the more drive I had to better myself, the more my interest for dance grew, evolving my infatuation for my passion.
Through the constant dedication of Mrs.Kretz and the passion enrooted in the whole dance team we are successful in every competition we attend.
As time went on the opportunity arose to have a solo. I took this challenge to compete my first solo and try to learn the capabilities I had as a dancer. As I performed my lyrical solo not only did my passion expand but so did my love for this genre of dance. The next years after that I continued with a lyrical solo each season. Lyrical dancing became my passion because it allowed my to fully release all my sadness, anger and happiness on stage, telling my story and leaving the world behind me. I knew with every jump and turn I was pouring out my thoughts to the audience.
Each solo I continued to prove myself and the dance I have become. These experiences influenced the strong love I have to perform, conquering my obstacles and developing my passion.
The moment I get on stage I feel all my troubles fade away as I let the world go and let the music take over. Feeling the spotlight on me it warms me with happiness to do what I love on stage. There is no place on this earth where I feel more free to just be me.
The constant presence of dance in my life allowed me to collaborate with a team providing opportunities to tell a story and express my emotions through the movements to the music.
The definition of dance: “The series of movements that match the speed and rhythm of a piece of music”
The definition of passion: “Any powerful or compelling emotion or feeling toward something”
My definition of my passion: Having an uncontrollable love to move on stage to the rhythm of the music.
Dance has developed into this incredible desire of mine through all the factors that have influenced my dance experience such as the obstacles of trying to prove myself and interactions with my teachers along with the bonds I have created with my teammates. These things push me to continue to go to practice everyday and want to be there. It shows me a clear understanding of how it had shaped the individual I am in my everyday life.
I can’t even begin to imagine my world without dance in it. Every class is a constant stress reliever and challenge to make myself want to be the best I can be.
Each passing year I notice my passion grows larger gaining more knowledge on the dance world. When I put on my first tap shoe 16 years ago, I wouldn’t have ever imagined its effects on who I am.
This journey through my dance career has molded my life by the devotion I feel for dancing. As I evolved, so did my passion as every moment I long to just be in the spotlight not allowing the curtains to close.
The successes I have experienced with this is how freely I was able to write this script. I think this was because I was writing about my past experiences and talked about my journey. Writing this became bitter sweet since I was reflecting on all the great moments and obstacles I encountered through the years. This helped me with my overall project to directly remember my evolution as a dancer from my time at the Laurie Ewart’s Studio to Myer Dance Team. Here it was easy to see why it has become my passion today.
A challenge I encountered was making sure that each line I wrote would have a specific purpose to my piece and where to put the voice overs. To make this easier I had to review before hand all the pictures and videos I collected to know where I needed to insert these lines which would be most beneficially to supporting my storyline and journey. The next step in my project is to record myself saying these voice overs. I think having my voice will make the documentary more personal and give the direct perspective of my journey. The timeline I plan to do this is to record a sentence each day to have the most time to edit them and place them over pictures and videos.
