This week I started thinking about ways to engage the audience for my ted talk. I want to have them be able to fully grasp the feeling I get on stage to understand why I picked the topic of dance for my passion project. To do this I decided to create sensory poem so I can bring them into my perspective of dance: & 5, 6, 7, 8 ! By Bianca Mascia One, Two, Three, Four, I enter the dark curtain like my home door, Oh dancer, just dance like nobody is watching they say, On my last recital in the middle of May.
Five, Six, Seven, Eight,
Its my count to go on and I can't be late, Yet there is an audience of familiar faces in the crowd, And the music beaming in my ear pounding loud. Two, Two, Three, Four,
I hear the beat like a booming roar, I am under the lights as hot as the blazing sun, The music takes over my body as we unite as one.
Five, Six, Seven, Eight,
There is no other feeling that can ever equate, To moving swiftly along the black matte floor, And I lose control of the world more and more. Three, Two, Three, Four, As I leap in the air I soar,
I give all my emotions to the stage below, And bathe in the spotlight's embracing glow.
Five, Six, Seven, Eight,
I feel the rise in my heart rate, Its almost over one more count now,
Until I give that final bow. Four, Two, Three, Four, I performed my passion that I adore, I told my story to everyone,
To show the dancer I have become. Five, Six, Seven, Eight, When its my turn to shine I cannot wait,
And One, Two, Three, Four, I am only me when I'm on the dance floor. I think this poem will be very effective for my hook to start my ted talk. In the poem there is many aspects of visual and sound imagery to bring the audience in to feel what I feel on stage. I think that with this poem it will help engage the audience to pay attention to my project and help them understand why dance is my passion more. The challenges of writing this poem was trying to express all my emotions onstage and make them rhyme with each other in a specific order. Also starting each stanza with either "One, Two, Three, Four" or "Five, Six, Seven, Eight" challenged me to have a various amount of rhyming words that could follow that line. However it was very easy to write the poem because it is a personal experience of being on stage I was reflecting on. All I had to do was think about every aspect I felt when I was dancing to portray this feeling to the audience. I think this helped with my overall objective to realizing why dance is my passion as well. When I wrote this it was bitter sweet to think of how great the feeling is being on stage. It made me think about how much I loved to dance and why I continued this activity for so many years. Here I could clearly tell why this was my passion that I adored so it was a reflection piece for me to see how dance has impacted my life.
